Self Critique --- Week 1

So you survived your first weekend refereeing this weekend. Whether you are a newbie or a veteran, we'd like to hear your own self assessment of your game(s). Keep it short, a couple things you thought went well, or even surprised yourself; one or two things you'll work on in your next game.

Include any scenarios or questions that came up. Can't wait to hear some of them. Enter your critiques as comments to this post.

So, I was a AR this weekend just to get my feet wet. And I also worked a girls U8 game where it almost seemed unnessary to have ARs on such a small field. Nevertheless, I know the main ref was appreciative for the support. It was good! I was reviewing all the little things we needed to do prior to game time (ie, equipment check, earings...) It just helped me feel a bit more comfortable for next week. My son also is new to reffing and had a great time. He was really into pointing out the corner kicks!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of refereeing. U8 is an excellent place to get started, in fact AYSO recommends referees start their careers in U8 or U10 divisions and work their way up as their children do. Good luck this season and thanks for volunteering your time.
